The Department of Corrections wanted $2,099,998.84 to lease weapons from an Arizona company, locked in until April 2035. Wheeler said it was too expensive and refused.

Councilor Wheeler said the previously tabled contract for TASER Energy Weapons for the Department of Corrections is too expensive and he would not support it.

In May this looked like ordinary belt-tightening. By December it was something much bigger. The department already had those weapons sitting in a state warehouse and had never told the Executive Council. Wheeler was right before anyone knew why.
