As the Transportation Commissioner retired after four decades, Wheeler paid him the highest compliment a business owner knows how to give. One day service, every time it was asked for.
Wheeler said Cass has always given the council “one day service” and is always responsive to the needs of the state.

Wheeler runs a farm and a flooring business in Milford. He knows what it costs a small business when government takes a month to do what should take a day, and he holds state agencies to the standard the private sector lives by every week.
He was not there to hand out compliments, though. At the same meeting he voted against a $747,000 retroactive sole source amendment. Retroactive means the work was already done before anyone asked permission, and Wheeler votes against that on principle no matter who benefits.
