Wheeler put it on the record in open session before it was a headline anywhere. A Chinese company, Nongfu Spring, had paid $67 million for a Nashua building and wanted access to Pennichuck water.

Councilor Wheeler asked officials about a Chinese water company, Nongfu Spring, which has purchased a building in the area for $67 million and is interested in getting water from Pennichuck.

He raised it months before the Attorney General opened a review and before the story reached the front page. Communist China has no business buying its way into a New Hampshire city’s water supply, and Wheeler was the first person at that table to say so out loud.

At the same meeting he helped kill a $9,847,800 increase for Alvarez & Marsal, a Washington consulting firm already holding $27.6 million of New Hampshire’s money. The Governor withdrew it five weeks later.

Nashua is in District 5. This is his backyard and he treats it that way.
